Welcome to the KCA Kosher blog

We will be posting sections from the book Going Kosher by Rabbi Amiram Markel along with additional articles, updates and information about keeping kosher in your home. Rabbi Markel’s book is a clear and comprehensive guide to many of the issues surrounding keeping a kosher home. Rabbi Amiram Markel has been in the kosher supervision field for over a quarter of a century and is recognized in southern California as one of the foremost authorities on all things kosher.

During his tenure as the Rav Hamachshir at the Vaad Hakashrus of Conejo Valley and Ventura County (now known as Kosher Certification of America – KCA) Rabbi Markel was approached by a community member who wanted to know how to begin keeping kosher. Rabbi Markel began to write a small booklet that would cover the basics of keeping kosher but, as he went along, it turned into the 280 page book that it is today covering nearly everything one needs to know in order to become kosher. This book, Going Kosher – an easy user friendly guide to keeping kosher, lays out the basic knowledge necessary for beginning to live a kosher observant life and has tried to be as comprehensive as possible while retaining the perspective of helping a Baal Tshuva become more observant.

The book Going Kosher is NOT a description of KCA policy and should not be taken as such.
We hope you enjoy these posts and that there is something you can take from it and apply to your daily life. Anxiously awaiting the true and complete redemption speedily in our days!
